Yes! We are back to informing you about everything there is to know about jobs and employment opportunities here in Papua New Guinea! We’re super excited and hope you are too.

Apart from that, here’s an update on what we’ve bee doing so far since we were offline:

  1. We’ve received 1 request for advertising services but haven’t progressed on that part in a while, due to our website being down. But now that it’s up, we’ll be sure to resume talks on that potential venture and hope to update you all with some good news. If you have an SME Business you would like to advertise your vacancies using our various platforms, we’re available to chat regarding your requests.
  2. We’ve received notice from some of our followers of certain organizations in PNG that are advertising for recruitment consultancy services, therefore we’ve been busy behind the scenes putting together our Expression of Interests for submission. These are huge opportunities for our organization to finally step into the realm of recruitment consultancy services and labor hiring so as always, you’ll be the first to know regarding any updates on them.
  3. Our LinkedIn Page followers have sky rocketed so far during our website’s absence! Despite this major set-back to our business, our LinkedIn Page has now 6,746 followers, and is getting close to outnumbering our Director’s total connections of 7,810 connections (Douglas has 26,758 followers so our TPNGR has a long way to go before reaching that number). Having this amount of followers and connections is significant to us as this allows for our messages, products and services to reach more people in PNG who are looking for ways to get jobs effectively. A big thank you to you all who keep following, commenting and sharing our content. Your help is always appreciated.
  4. All our blogs from last year are now available for reading so do scroll down our site to refer to any that are of interest to you, leave a comment, share or inform yourself more on these opportunities we’ve documented for you to take advantage of when they do commence.
  5. During the time our website was down, we decided to create a LinkedIn Newsletter. After just 3 posts, the LinkedIn Newsletter now has up to 4,274 subscribers. This is seriously unprecedented, as our motive was to have an alternative form of communication since our website/blog services were down. Shows the demand for news on job opportunities and our services is high and plan to make total advantage of it in the coming months for your benefit, hopefully through vacancies advertising and other content. You can go to our LinkedIn Page to sign up for the Newsletter via this link: https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/the-png-recruiter-newsletter-7150123862775480320 .

That’s about it guys, hope to put out our next blog in the coming days as we’ve seen a few opportunities we’d like to document for your reading and education.

Transferrable Skills Uncategorized

Why Transferrable Skills are key to combating unemployment in Papua New Guinea

Here is a great article in the Post-Courier from last year about a guy named Canute Alohea, who started with the Ramu NiCo Mine (Madang Province, PNG) as a Carpenter but over the course of his 10 years of employment with them and through attending numerous in-house trainings, he’s now a Supervisor of the Open Pit Mine there (/https://www.postcourier.com.pg/from-carpenter-to-open-pit-mine-supervisor/)

Image 2: Taken from Post-Courier Newspaper article (/https://www.postcourier.com.pg/from-carpenter-to-open-pit-mine-supervisor/)

SO WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THIS ARTICLE?

This article show a great example of what Transferrable Skills can do in helping a Carpenter like Canute to becoming a Mining Pit Supervisor. Now you may say that it’s only because the in-house trainings Canute attended enabled him make a successful shift from Carpentry and into Mine Pit Supervising, you are right but Transferrable Skills can be realized and utilized at the jobseeker level to obtain jobs fast.

SO WHAT EXACTLY ARE TRANSFERRABLE SKILLS?

Here’s what we found about Transferrable Skills:

Transferable skills are abilities, knowledge, or experiences that can be applied and adapted across various roles, industries, or situations. These skills are not tied to a specific job or field but can be utilized in different contexts. Transferable skills are valuable because they enable individuals to transition between jobs, sectors, or even career paths more smoothly. They are often considered fundamental skills that contribute to overall success and effectiveness in the workplace. Some examples of transferable skills include:

  1. Communication: The ability to convey information clearly and effectively, whether through verbal, written, or non-verbal means.
  2. Problem-solving: The capacity to analyze issues, identify solutions, and implement effective strategies to overcome challenges.
  3. Leadership: Skills related to guiding, motivating, and coordinating individuals or teams to achieve common goals.
  4. Time management: The skill of efficiently organizing and prioritizing tasks to maximize productivity and meet deadlines.
  5. Adaptability: The capability to adjust to new situations, environments, or requirements with flexibility and resilience.
  6. Critical thinking: The capacity to objectively evaluate information, assess situations, and make informed decisions.
  7. Collaboration: The ability to work effectively with others, fostering teamwork, and leveraging collective strengths.
  8. Creativity: Skills related to generating innovative ideas, approaches, or solutions to solve problems or improve processes.
  9. Emotional intelligence: The ability to understand, manage, and express emotions appropriately, both in oneself and in others.
  10. Technical proficiency: Proficiency with various tools, software, or equipment relevant to specific industries or roles.

These skills are often sought after by employers because they contribute to an individual’s overall competence and adaptability in the workplace, regardless of the specific job or industry. Additionally, transferable skills can be developed and honed over time through education, training, and real-world experiences, making them valuable assets for career growth and professional development. (https://chat.openai.com/share/ca4fdee1-26b8-4ada-9f95-5a0d4c565fe5)

In laymen’s terms, Transferrable skills can be carried over from one job to another. These skills don’t necessarily have to be thought in school, but can be learned on the job, at home in your own time, in a sports team, in church, anywhere, etc.

SO HOW CAN TRANSFERRABLE SKILLS HELP LESSEN THE EFFECTS OF UNEMPLOYMENT IF REALISED BY ALL CURRENT AND FUTURE JOBSEEKERS?

Here’s what we found in regards to the above questions:

If all current and future job seekers possess transferable skills, it can significantly mitigate the effects of unemployment in several ways:

  1. Enhanced employability: Individuals with transferable skills are more adaptable and versatile, making them attractive candidates for a wider range of job opportunities. Employers value these skills because they indicate a candidate’s ability to contribute effectively in various roles and environments.
  2. Smooth career transitions: Transferable skills enable job seekers to transition more seamlessly between industries or occupations. This flexibility reduces the time spent searching for suitable positions and increases the likelihood of finding employment sooner, even in industries experiencing growth while others decline.
  3. Increased resilience: Transferable skills empower individuals to navigate periods of unemployment with greater resilience. They can leverage these skills to explore alternative employment options, such as freelancing, temporary work, or starting their own businesses, thereby reducing reliance on traditional employment channels.
  4. Upskilling opportunities: Recognizing the value of transferable skills, job seekers may invest in ongoing learning and development to strengthen these skills further. This proactive approach not only enhances their employability but also positions them for future career advancement and opportunities in emerging industries or sectors.
  5. Networking advantages: Individuals with transferable skills can leverage their diverse experiences and abilities to build broader professional networks. Networking can lead to job referrals, mentorship opportunities, and access to hidden job markets, increasing the likelihood of securing employment during periods of unemployment.
  6. Demonstrated value to employers: Job seekers who emphasize their transferable skills during the application and interview process can effectively communicate their potential value to prospective employers. By highlighting how their skills can benefit the organization in various capacities, they stand out as valuable assets, even if they lack direct experience in a particular role or industry.

Overall, the widespread recognition and utilization of transferable skills among job seekers can contribute to a more resilient workforce, reducing the negative impacts of unemployment and fostering greater adaptability in an ever-changing labor market (https://chat.openai.com/share/ca4fdee1-26b8-4ada-9f95-5a0d4c565fe5).

SO WHERE CAN I GET TRANSFERRABLE SKILLS FROM?

Transferable skills can be acquired and developed through various means, including:

  1. Education: Many transferable skills, such as communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving, can be cultivated through formal education. Courses in fields like communication studies, psychology, business administration, or liberal arts often focus on developing these skills.
  2. Work Experience: Previous employment provides opportunities to develop transferable skills. Whether through leadership roles, teamwork on projects, or facing challenges that require problem-solving, work experience offers practical opportunities to hone these abilities.
  3. Volunteering: Volunteering for community organizations, non-profits, or charitable causes can help develop transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership, and adaptability. Volunteering often involves diverse tasks and interactions, providing valuable learning experiences.
  4. Internships and On-Job-Training Programs: Participating in internships or cooperative on-job-training programs allows students/apprentices to gain practical experience in a professional setting. These opportunities provide exposure to real-world challenges and help develop transferable skills relevant to the workplace.
  5. Professional Development Workshops and Seminars: Attending workshops, seminars, and conferences focused on topics like leadership, communication, time management, and other transferable skills can enhance your abilities and provide valuable insights from experts in the field.
  6. Online Courses and Tutorials: Numerous online platforms offer courses and tutorials on a wide range of transferable skills. Websites such as Coursera, LinkedIn Learning, Udemy, ReeLae and Khan Academy provide accessible resources for self-directed learning.
  7. Networking and Mentoring: Building relationships with professionals in your field or industry can provide opportunities to learn from their experiences and gain insights into developing transferable skills. Mentors can offer guidance, support, and feedback to help you grow professionally.
  8. Extracurricular Activities: Participation in extracurricular activities such as sports teams, student organizations, or hobby groups can foster transferable skills like teamwork, leadership, communication, and time management.

By actively seeking out opportunities to develop and strengthen transferable skills through these various avenues, individuals can enhance their overall competence, adaptability, and employability in the workforce (https://chat.openai.com/share/ca4fdee1-26b8-4ada-9f95-5a0d4c565fe5).

By taking part in the above, you are giving yourself a chance to develop skills that are produced from basically taking part in organized activities for free. All one needs is to make time available to take part. But now that you’ve read this, we hope you have a sense of direction and goals in place on what you want to obtain from such activities and organizations through volunteerism and charity.

So when you go into a job interview with zero job experience, you got your Transferrable Skills to rely on, they’re documented in your CV and Cover Letter and you have references to back your Transferrable Skills from wherever you obtained them from. If everyone realized these skills before graduating from our schools and colleges, we’d have less unemployment issues in our country. That’s one of our many theories on how we can empower ourselves to win in the world of job seeking in PNG.

Thanks for reading and comment and let us know your thoughts, follow us on LinkedIn Facebook and Instagram and sign up to our blog if you haven’t yet.

Well the name says it all as mentioned above also, EPC is the Engineering, Procurement, Construction Phase of a Liquid Natural Gas Project and it consists of these 3 fields of expertise which are explained in more detail below:

THE PNG RECRUITER’S HOT TIP:

If you’re interested in taking part in the EPC Stage

*Do research on Vinci Construction Terrassement SpieCapag Niugini Limited. Their background, history, where their Headquarters are, etc. We did research for them but couldn’t find a website but eventually information should be released to the public, most likely released when the job adverts for the project in 2024 via jobs boards or print media.

*Monitor all social platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.) they are on to keep up to date on vacancies for the EPC Stage of the Papua LNG

* Monitor the Papua LNG Website too at https://papualng.com.pg/opportunities/ for job opportunities with the EPC Phase of the project.

Those are our best tips we can give you but if you have any more you’d like to add on, do so in the comments here or whatever social platforms you see this posted on. Any discussion is healthy towards obtaining knowledge.

The next part of the project will be the Commissioning and Start Up Stage 2027 so we’ll be covering it when it happens or sooner.

Until then, thanks for reading.

PNG NRL BID 2025 : Job Opportunities & Effects On PNG Businesses

ESPN Australia reported on 21st of July 2023 that “The Albanese government has pledged $5.5 million in support of Papua New Guinea’s bid for the next NRL license.” (https://www.espn.com.au/nrl/story/_/id/38045439/australian-government-pledges-55m-png-nrl-bid)

Rugby League is the national sport of Papua New Guinea and for our country to have a team in the National Rugby League competition by 2025 would fulfill the dream of a Nation, as most would say.

Some would say also that we are not ready to have a team due to all the socio-economic hardships our people are facing now; that our government needs to actively resolve them first before pursuing such as it would be more wise and useful spending of funds to do so before massive amounts of money such as the above mentioned are pumped into this venture.

Well, should the bid be successful (thanks to the Australian Federal Government’s funding, which has turned the bid into the likely one to win the next NRL license) we need to be prepared for the job opportunities and businesses that can be generated from such a venture.

  • Hospitality Managers
  • Fan Engagement Coordinators
  • Event Hosts and Ambassadors

This diverse range of roles spans across various sectors, providing a comprehensive overview of potential job opportunities arising from Papua New Guinea’s potentially successful bid in the National Rugby League competition.

But apart from direct employment creation, spin- effects will be felt positively in various sectors of the PNG Business Environment. Here below are a few of them we believe will experience a surge in business activity should our country enter the NRL:

Hospitality Industry:
   – Local restaurants, cafes, and bars may experience increased patronage from fans attending matches and related events.

Retail and Merchandising:
   – Local shops and businesses selling team merchandise can benefit from heightened demand for jerseys, memorabilia, and other fan gear.

Tourism and Accommodation:
   – Hotels, guesthouses, and other accommodations may see increased bookings as fans and teams travel to and from Papua New Guinea for matches.

Transportation Services:
   – Local transport services, including taxis, buses, and car rentals, may experience higher demand on game days and during team-related events.

Media and Advertising:
   – Local advertising agencies and media outlets can benefit from increased advertising and promotional activities associated with the NRL team.

Event Management Services:
   – Companies specializing in event planning, security services, and logistics stand to gain from organizing matches, fan events, and related activities.

Health and Wellness:
   – Local fitness centers, wellness facilities, and healthcare providers may experience increased engagement as the focus on sports and fitness grows with the presence of an NRL team.

Construction and Infrastructure:
   – Infrastructure development for stadiums or venue upgrades can boost local construction businesses and create job opportunities.

Technology and Entertainment:
   – Local technology providers and entertainment services may see increased demand for services related to fan engagement, ticketing, and broadcasting.

Sponsorship and Corporate Partnerships:
    – Local businesses that align with the team’s values and interests may find opportunities for sponsorship and partnerships, enhancing their brand visibility.

Community and Grassroots Sports:
    – Local sports clubs and organizations may experience increased support and participation as interest in rugby and related activities grows.

Education and Training:
    – Training programs for sports-related careers, such as coaching and sports science, may see higher enrollment as interest in rugby and sports management rises.

The positive impact on local businesses extends beyond the immediate sports and entertainment sector, fostering economic growth and community development.

What factors will make all the above mentioned thrive?

In order for all the above to work well, the below listed would be required on an ongoing basis to maintain consistency of high level results and success in the NRL and as a professional Rugby League Team:

Effective Marketing and Promotion:
   – Strategic marketing efforts to create awareness and build excitement around the team, its matches, and associated events are crucial for attracting fans and sponsors.

Community Engagement:
   – Active involvement in the local community, including outreach programs, youth development initiatives, and grassroots events, fosters a strong fan base and positive relationships.

Strategic Partnerships:
   – Building strong partnerships with local businesses, sponsors, and community organizations can enhance the team’s financial stability and contribute to the overall success of associated ventures.

High-Quality Fan Experience:
   – Ensuring an enjoyable and inclusive experience for fans during matches and events encourages repeat attendance and strengthens the team’s connection with its supporters, whom not only will be from Papua New Guinea but from around the Asia Pacific region and world.

Player Development and Performance:
   – Investing in the development of local talent, maintaining a competitive team, and achieving success on the field contribute to the team’s overall appeal and marketability.

Efficient Operations and Management:
   – Effective management of team operations, including finances, logistics, and administrative functions, is essential for long-term sustainability and success.

Innovative Technology Integration:
   – Leveraging technology for fan engagement, ticketing, broadcasting, and data analytics can enhance the overall experience and keep the team at the forefront of industry trends.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR):
   – Demonstrating a commitment to social and environmental responsibility through CSR initiatives strengthens the team’s reputation and connection with the community.

Strong Leadership:
   – Leadership that is visionary, adaptable, and capable of making strategic decisions is essential for navigating challenges and capitalizing on opportunities.

Effective Communication:
    – Transparent and open communication with fans, sponsors, and the community helps build trust and loyalty, contributing to the overall success of the team and associated businesses. E.g, either in a win or a loss, the club still has to front up to the media to discuss their performance to maintain professionalism with fans, the public and be great ambassadors of all their sponsors.

Infrastructure Development:
    – Investing in modern and well-equipped stadiums, training facilities, and infrastructure contributes to the team’s professionalism and attractiveness to fans, players, and sponsors.

Adaptability to Market Trends:
    – Staying informed and adaptive to evolving market trends, fan preferences, and industry changes allows the team and associated businesses to remain relevant and competitive. E.g, using social media platforms to leverage off current trends to maintain engagement with fans, increase product awareness for it’s sponsors to the wider NRL competition.

The synergy of these factors creates an environment where the team and local businesses can thrive, fostering economic growth and community development.

At the end of the day, this is will be a opportunity that can greatly affect all who are involved in the sport and all businesses that potentially can benefit for this venture. But ultimately, it has the potential to increase the prosperity of Papua New Guinea if it is managed well. Let’s see what happens…

Don’t forget those who scored GPAs below 3.5.

It’s coming to the end of the year and between the month’s of early November 2023 to late January 2024 graduates will be undergoing Graduate Development Programs (GDP), seeking internships and on-job-trainings during the festive period.

Not sure what the requirements are these days for obtaining internships/OJTs with organisations but I am aware of a couple GDPs that require interested applicants to have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 and above.

That would mean only the cream of PNG’s Universities will have a chance at entering GDP’s for those organisations offering it, which are arguably some of the best organisations to work for, in terms of benefits and salary packages on offer, career development and progression and so on.

So what happens to those who didn’t rise to the top to be with those who scored 3.5 and above GPAs?  Where does the kid with a GPA of 2 go to since obviously they won’t be considered for any of the GDP’s out there now?

Compared to the fair number of kids who’ve scored the required GPA’s to be considered for GDP’s, I bet you there is an even higher number of university graduates who haven’t achieved that GPA. So what happens to these huge number of Graduates that meet this category?

To be frank, I was never a top scoring pupil in university. I always lined up all the Credits, Passes and Conceded Passes. And by the time I was able to graduate, I did with a GPA of 2. That made my experience as a recent university graduate one of the most toughest experiences in my life, as no employer wanted to hire a kid with what is considered “below average grades”.

It took 12 months before I could nail a job and that was through a friend from university who needed a temp to fill in for a staff who was going for their maternity leave. If I hadn’t established good contacts in university, I believe it would have taken a bit longer to have a found employment. Eventually I was made permanent, made the most of my chances and the rest is history. My story is just an example of an untapped pool of talent that’s been shunned by the system that’s ready and rearing for an opportunity to work: graduates who haven’t met the GPA requirements. I was one of them and I know their plight.

All the top organisations are busy fighting over the best talent in the country to join them through their GDP programs and they’re forgetting we have a whole heap of graduates who have the qualifications and have come from the same higher learning institutions the cream of the crop but are left behind due to missing a few points to their GPA’s.

A reminder to organisations in PNG to not forget that untapped pool of talent, if your struggling to compete against the big corporates for those top talents, why not give a chance to those kids with below 3.5 GPAs? I’m sure they’ll appreciate the opportunity, not demand too much pay, be fast in learning on the job and they’ll give their all. You tapping into this overlooked pool of talent will most likely save your organisation money, time and resources and ultimately, help relieve the country of it’s prevailing unemployment issue.

Another Update…

Hi all.

Just an update on where we are with our business:

1.  WordPress  Domain (www.thepngrecruiter.com) has been paid for via PayPal , we created an account to by-pass BSP Financial Group Limited ‘s so-called “FRAUD RESTRICTIONS” . But in doing so, they blocked that payment method from occurring a second time so we are unable to purchase a WordPress Business Plan via Paypal. Importantly we have the domain and have saved all our email lists and blogs from disappear ing into cyber space.

2. We are still awaiting feedback on our application to register with the IPA & IRC.

3. Logo still in progress due to blackouts in Mt.Hagen, where our graphic designer resides. We’ll advise when its done.

4. We’ve successful signed up to Reelae as an Instructor. Had a few complications regarding unavailability of Dashboard and course creating capabilities but they’ve now been resolved. We’ll keep you posted on our first online course launch.

5. Application to PNG Human Resource Institute Inc. has been graded at Associate Level and we are now in the process of paying for courses this year to study next year.

We’ll keep you posted on further updates. Thanks for reading and remember…..#WokEmWok #ThePNGRecruiter

Bad and Good News folks…

Hi guys, just an update on

where we are with our blog/business registration: Regarding our blog, I’ve been using WordPress for my blogging but its come to the time of renewing my domain and WordPress Plan, and I’m unable to make the payment due to BSP Financial Group Limited not allowing me to make foreign transactions freely as I should. Apparently my VISA Card transactions are blocked unless I notify their “FRAUD TEAM” to unlock my transaction to occur. Though I’ve been notified several times by BSP’s Fraud Team that I have been given permission to make the transaction , payment has been declined on all attempts. Therefore, I will unfortunately have to abandon my WordPress site (and BSP in the near future) and do all business communication here using LinkedIn services. All emails collected will be lost and sadley all records of blogs created too. Onto more positive things, regarding the business registration, our application is lodged with the Investment Promotion Authority and are awaiting further feedback, IRC Tin Number/Certificate to follow suit once we are registered. Our logo is in the works also and we should receive the draft for review tomorrow from a local graphic artist we’ve engaged.

We are also looking at increasing the quality of our service delivery by registering ourselves for further training & development with the PNG Human Resource Institute Inc. , so all our customers who engage us get nothing but the best.

Em tasol, our sincere apologies to you all, thr situation is out of our control but like all business, we will adapt to change. Thanks for supporting us and we hope to get back to you soon with some blogs for your awarenesses and education.

Until next time….#WokEmWok #ThePNGRecruiter

We’ll be back soon…

Hi guys,

Apologies for not posting lately but its for a good reason: we are registering ourselves with the IPA and IRC to become a legitimate business.

What does this mean for you?

It means we’ll be able to sell you content for your learning and education through online courses, workshops, webinars, ebooks, etc., soon.

We’re going to give you the information you need to win in the world of jobseeking and hopefully one day, eradicate unemployment from PNG, through education and knowledge sharing, through The PNG Recruiter.

We say thank you to you also for subscribing to our blog, it means alot. With it, we intend to do great things not only for you but the whole of PNG now and for its future.

Please, do share our blogs with your friends and family, your collegues at work or friends at school. Hopefully they can subscribe to our blog as well.

Until next time….#WokEmWokm #ThePNGRecruiter
